WP 8.1 - Technical, operational, economical and security of system

At the highest level of aggregation, Wind Power Plant Clusters (WPPC) are connected across mixed AC and DC (hybrid) multi-terminal networks, which are not only transmission technologies, but are also controllable elements. These new and innovative systems, which lack sufficiently long planning and operating experience, must be considered when jointly controlling widely distributed WPPC’s.
In this context, the overall objective of this work package is to develop the required models and control strategies to allow international offshore WPP/WWPC (independent of wind farm sizes and modern wind turbine technology) connected across several countries in Europe to participate in the secure and cost-effective operation of the European electricity systems controlling power markets, and providing ancillary services and grid stability mechanisms similar to conventional power plants.
